Mass produced
art is tasteless and devoid of all character and serves only one purpose… to
make your wall fit in exactly with everyone else’s who bought that same
lithograph of some woodland scene, beachfront sunset, or dog’s playing poker.
While the last is momentarily amusing, after about the first day it simply
becomes annoying. Art is an expression of an artist at a particular moment in
time. If you copy it, you demean it and lessen its worth. Give me an original
ANYTHING… sketch, oil painting, pen and ink… a one of a kind expression… and I
will proudly hang it on display. I want to see the artists’ feelings… not their
greed. I have one painting right now that can never be replaced… because my
mother painted it for me, of a place that we visited nearly every weekend in
the summertime, our entire family hiking and picnicking nearly every decent
weekend there. The place is a fixture within my writing, as well, and is a
cornerstone of my life and who I have become. Capturing that… is art.
