These are things
like autographs and baseball cards and movie props, I suppose. That fact that
people collect these things astound me, I have to say. These are all things of
Man, and will fade into history except for those few people who have no lives
other than to dwell in the past. I am not talking about people like
archeologists, who study layers of the earth so that they can tell me that 1500
years ago my ancestors ate fried chicken too, because stuff like that is
important in my life, you know? People who pay 5 million dollars for so and
so’s 500th home run baseball… those are the ones who I don’t
understand. I mean, 5 million dollars… I can live the rest of my life on a
million… why not give that 5 million dollars to five or ten people to raise
their family on? It just seems like it would be a much better investment than a
chunk of sports equipment… even if it has been smacked with a bat by a
steroid/testosterone laden professional athlete who was paid more last year
than everyone in my entire hometown earned together…
